Oriol Romeu, a former player for Southampton and Chelsea, has achieved an unbelievable return to Barcelona despite a ridiculous release provision in his contract. The 31-year-old midfielder has returned to the Nou Camp after departing in 2011, where he only appeared in one La Liga match during his initial stint.
Romeu then played for Chelsea, and Southampton, where he spent seven years and 256 appearances, before joining Girona in Spain. Now the midfielder signed a three-year deal with a stunning £350 million release clause, making him Barcelona's third summer acquisition after Spain international Inigo Martinez and free agent Ilkay Gundogan from Athletic Bilbao and Manchester City, respectively. After finishing 10 points ahead of their opponents Real Madrid in second place, Barca won their first La Liga championship since 2019 thanks to Xavi. After Real added the £88.5 million signing of English starlet Jude Bellingham, the title race in Spain is certain to be an exciting one once more.
