UEFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against Fenerbahçe midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood after heated incidents during the second leg of their Champions League play‑off against Olympique Lyonnais. According to the Turkish club, both players are accused of making provocative gestures toward home supporters, triggering a confrontation as Guendouzi exited the pitch following Fenerbahçe’s 2‑1 victory last month.
In a statement, the club said it would present its defence to UEFA to safeguard the interests of both players and the institution. Fenerbahçe itself is also under review, with UEFA confirming that “everything from that match is still with the disciplinary body.”
The tie ended with Fenerbahçe progressing to the league phase of the Champions League thanks to a 3‑2 aggregate win, but the fallout from the fiery night in Lyon now hangs over the club’s European campaign.
