Fenerbahce produced a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Liverpool

Fenerbahce produced a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Liverpool in Istanbul, ending Andoni Iraola’s perfect Champions League start and deepening the visitors’ difficult week.

Liverpool took the lead through teenager Trey Nyoni, whose effort deflected past the goalkeeper. Fenerbahce responded quickly, with Mason Greenwood equalising after Irfan Can Kahveci had struck the crossbar.

The visitors continued to threaten and regained the advantage when Alexander Isak powered home a header, scoring his first Champions League goal in three years. But another defensive lapse proved costly: Cody Gakpo’s misplaced header deceived Alisson Becker, allowing Archie Brown to score from close range.

Fenerbahce completed the turnaround after substitute Vedat Muriqi rose between three defenders to head home the winner, his first goal in the competition.

The defeat follows Liverpool’s loss to Arsenal and leaves them fourth with nine points. Fenerbahce move up to 19th, having collected five points from four matches this season.
