With all the backlash that Paul Pogba's imminent transfer from Juventus to Manchester United is generating, there are a lot of football pundits and personalities inside England that are completely against the price Manchester United is willing to pay for the Frenchman. However, there are people who believe this is going to be a cheap price to pay for such a talented young player with one of the brightest futures in recent football history. Only players like Neymar, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo have done better than Pogba at his age.
For Rio Ferdinand who is a Manchester United legend in his own right, €120 million for Paul Pogba don't seem like such an elevated price when you look at everything he can potentially give to the club. His addition to Jose Mourinho's roster would instantly turn the Red Devils into the top title contenders of any tournament they play. Plus, when you look at other legendary players in history, you see that at the same age, they were just as accomplished as this young man is.
Ferdinand spoke as a Pundit for the BBC and said: "I speak to Paul. I know him. For Paul, it's all about football. It’s not about money. The biggest things for me and my family [when I moved to United] was not the money. It was: 'What's [Ryan Giggs] Giggsy like? What's Roy Keane like?' Paul's like that. He loves football. It's all about improving and being the best. When he left I asked him why and he said: 'I want to be the best player in the world.' He's on the right track."
About the price they will pay for him, Rio added: "[The transfer fee] is big pressure, but my biggest pressure wasn't on the football pitch at Old Trafford. My biggest pressure was on the training pitch with those players. It was walking into the dressing room knowing that they were thinking: 'What does €35million get you then? Can he win us the league? Can he help be the bedrock of this team?' That's the pressure that I felt most when I went into Manchester United, and putting that pressure on myself to write myself into the history of the club through success and winning trophies."
