Fiorentina flattened Sassuolo 5-1

With goals from Nico Gonzalez, Lucas Martinez Quarta, Riccardo Sottil, and others, Fiorentina easily defeated Sassuolo. After losing to Atalanta 4-1 in the Coppa Italia semifinal, the Viola were overextended by their lengthy schedule leading up to their first-leg Europa League semi-final matchup with Club Brugge. Sitting in penultimate position with Armand Lauriente suspended, Samu Castillejo, Domenico Berardi, Gregoire Defrel, and Marcus Pedersen injured, the Neroverdi were in serious difficulty.

In the early going, Christian Kouame narrowly missed making contact with the Riccardo Sottil pull-back from the by-line, while Andrea Consigli made two excellent stops from corners. After cutting inside from the left and bending a right-foot curler into the far bottom corner from just beyond the penalty area, Sottil broke the tie. On minute 28, Fabiano Parisi had a chance to make it 2-0, but his left-footed screamer struck the crossbar.
