In their much-needed Serie A match, Fiorentina defeated Atalanta 3-2, with two goals from Andrea Belotti to seal the victory and send both teams packing. The opportunity to go up to third place above Juventus was provided to Atalanta when they met one week after every other team's season ended. Fiorentina would have remained in seventh place regardless of the outcome.
The match began later than scheduled because Fiorentina director Joe Barone passed away just before kickoff in the March match. After just six minutes, the away team took the lead thanks to a well-placed glancing header from striker Andrea Belotti. Six minutes later, Ademola Lookman pulled the home team level, but that happiness was short-lived as Nicolas Gonzalez gave Fiorentina a 19-minute lead with a volleyed strike after watching a cross land on his foot.
