Freiburg beats Werder Bremen to take the top-four spot

In Freiburg's largest victory of the season, Vincenzo Grifo and Ritsu Doan each scored twice as Julian Schuster's team increased their chances of qualifying for the Champions League the following season with a fourth consecutive league win. Freiburg led in the first half thanks to an acrobatic effort from Kiliann Sildillia, and the home team took control with goals from Grifo and Doan in the dying minutes.

Ritsu Doan scored his own double late on, but first, an unmarked Grifo headed in Lucas Höler's cross in the second half to secure a fourth consecutive league victory. Before the Red Bulls visit struggling Heidenheim on Sunday, Freiburg leads RB Leipzig by two points in the coveted last Champions League position. It would be their first appearance in the Champions League if Freiburg is able to maintain their form.
