Niclas Füllkrug has rediscovered his goalscoring form since returning to Werder Bremen, emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s most prolific forwards this season.
The 33-year-old has already scored eight league goals, including a brace against Mainz, matching Rudi Völler’s historic record of eight goals in the opening seven matches for Bremen. His resurgence has also revived speculation over a possible Germany recall.
Füllkrug endured a difficult spell at West Ham, scoring only three times in 29 appearances while struggling with injuries and the club’s tactical demands. A subsequent loan to AC Milan brought little improvement, with the striker starting just three of 20 matches.
Back at Bremen, however, he has found a system suited to his strengths. His aerial ability, intelligent positioning and hold-up play have made him a major threat inside the penalty area, while his presence has also improved Bremen’s effectiveness from set pieces.
