The former Atletico's central midfielder, now at Al Sadd, stated that the Slovenian goalkeeper – whose deal runs through until 2021 but contains a €100m release clause – must improve.

“Oblak wins many points for Atletico Madrid,” Gabi told Cadena Cope.

“It is a very important position to have a world class player and Atleti have that, so it is crucial that they try to convince him to stay and renew", according to the experienced footballer.

“I am convinced that he wants to renew at the club and also that Atletico want him to renew, so there is sure to be an agreement. He is as decisive as any outfield player.”
