Galatasaray won 3-2 in Molde on Wednesday in the first leg of a playoff to qualify for the Champions League. Mauro Icardi scored a deft goal and then provided a selfless assist on the game-winning goal in stoppage time. The Turkish champion is on the verge of making a comeback to the lucrative group stage for the first time in four years thanks to the Argentina forward's inventiveness.
The goal by Icardi, who took a floating cross from Yunus Akgün over his right shoulder with a first-time shot to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute, was his highlight play. Molde had taken the lead in the fifth minute, levelled the score early in the second half, but was defeated in the very last few seconds. Icardi made a break for it and sent a cross into the goalmouth for Fredrik Midtsjo of Norway to score into an empty net.
