Galatasaray advances to the next round of Champions League qualifying thanks to Mertens' screamer. Galatasaray beat Lithuania's Zalgiris 1-0 in Istanbul win 3-2 on aggregate. Galatasaray eliminated Zalgiris of Lithuania on Wednesday, securing their spot in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Galatasaray defeated Zalgiris 1-0 at Rams Park in Istanbul in the 31st minute with to a long-range goal by Belgian striker Dries Mertens, giving them a 3-2 overall victory.
Galatasaray will play Slovenian team Olimpija Ljubljana in the following round. The following teams have advanced to the third round: Panathinaikos, Olimpija Ljubljana, Aris Limassol, Slovan Bratislava, Dinamo Zagreb, Rakow, Klaksvik, Molde, Maccabi Haifa, Servette, and Copenhagen. The third qualifying round matches' first and second legs will take place on August 8–9 and August 15, respectively.
