At the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Genoa held Inter Milan to a 2-2 draw in the exciting first game of the Serie A season. Junior Messias scored a thrilling late equalizer to keep the reigning champions from winning the game. In the 20th minute, Alessandro Vogliacco gave Genoa a surprise lead by tapping the ball into the net after it had rebounded off the crossbar. Ten minutes later, Inter hit back, as Marcus Thuram used his aerial prowess to head home a perfectly placed cross from Nicolo Barella to tie the score at one.
Thuram scored again in the 82nd minute as the game was drawing to a close. He received a well-timed through pass and skillfully lifted it over Genoa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini to give Inter a 2-1 lead. Although it appeared as though the visitors would win all three points, but Genoa made a comeback. With lightning speed, Messias pounced on the rebound after Genoa’s penalty was saved and slotted the ball home to give Genoa a thrilling equalizer.
