Girona a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Espanyol

The 38-year-old Uruguayan converted the spot-kick with just three minutes left on the clock, denying Espanyol a crucial victory in their battle against relegation. Espanyol, based in Barcelona, had taken the lead early in the second half through a stunning individual effort by Jofre Carreras. The loanee from Mirandes picked up the ball deep in his own half, embarked on a dazzling run, and unleashed a powerful strike from nearly 25 meters out, positioning himself as a strong candidate for goal of the season.

Following the draw, Espanyol remains 15th in the La Liga standings, only two points clear of the relegation zone, while Girona sits comfortably in 13th place, five points ahead of the danger zone. Stuani’s late equalizer dealt a significant blow to Carreras and Espanyol, who were hoping for a crucial win to bolster their survival hopes.
