Girona beat Las Palmas 2-1

Girona beat Las Palmas 2-1 and ended a four-game losing streak in La Liga on Monday. After four games without a victory, both clubs needed points going into the match, and Girona pulled ahead after seven minutes. Abel Ruíz coolly placed the ball under the oncoming goalie after evading the visitor's offside trap.

On the stroke of halftime, the powerful striker's penalty was saved, denying him a chance to double the advantage. After 79 minutes, however, Colombian winger Yáser Asprilla scored a beautiful low shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, Fabio Silva gave the visitors a consolation goal. Las Palmas was two points above the relegation zone and had not won since before Christmas, while Girona was eighth in the standings.
