Six consecutive victories in the first division are difficult, according to Girona coach Michel. "We must savour this occasion. The matchup with Madrid, one of the top clubs in the world, will be crucial. The reigning champion Barcelona, which is two points behind Girona after Mallorca's 2-2 draw on Tuesday, has had its five-game winning run snapped. Villarreal was defeated by Girona after a comeback, continuing the team's remarkable season. Dani Parejo scored from the spot to give the hosts the lead in the 49th minute, but goals from Artem Dovbyk and Eric Garcia in the 56th and 61st minutes gave Girona the advantage.

The season began with a 1-1 tie for Girona, which is owned by Manchester City's parent company, City Football Group, at Real Sociedad. Villarreal has lost all three of its games across all competitions.
