Girona reclaimed the second spot in La Liga, amassing 62 points, one ahead of Barcelona and trailing leaders Real Madrid by four points with a game in hand. The home team asserted early dominance, as Portu netted a goal in the first half, capitalizing on Viktor Tysgankov's assist. Despite missing numerous chances, Girona secured a decisive victory when Savinho, set up by Aleix Garcia, found the net in the 84th minute. Girona, once considered surprise contenders, had faced setbacks, including a 4-0 defeat by Real Madrid. However, this triumph placed them back in the race for Champions League qualification, establishing a 12-point lead over fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao.

Despite Osasuna's high press, Girona's intricate passing and wet conditions facilitated their control. The match showcased Girona's fluid play, with Portu's goal stemming from a sequence of over 20 passes. In the second half, Girona intensified their efforts, overcoming defensive challenges to secure a vital win.
