Girona's terrible start to the season continued on Wednesday when they were held to a 0-0 home draw by Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, with the visitors having a late chance to take all three points. With four straight losses in all competitions, Girona, the unexpected contenders from the previous year, are now in 12th place in La Liga with eight points, ten points behind leaders Barcelona, who play Getafe later on Wednesday.

Girona controlled the most of the play, holding over 70% of the ball, but they wasted several chances, squandering three excellent close-range opportunities in a dull game. Yaser Asprilla, who just signed with Girona, squandered a clear opportunity late in the first half, missing with his first attempt from just beyond the six-yard box. In the 71st minute, he attempted a curling shot, but it struck the crossbar.
