Girona overtook Barcelona for second place

Girona got back to winning ways on Saturday, defeating Osasuna 2-0 to reclaim second place in La Liga. Girona significantly improved their chances of finishing in the top three. Girona overtook Barcelona for second place after goals from Cristian Portu inside the first fifteen minutes and a late goal from Savinho. In just 13 minutes, Girona outplayed their opponents in 10th position and controlled the opening exchanges as Portu's flawless first-time finish put Girona ahead.

Just before the hour, Daley Blind had a chance to double Girona's advantage, but the Osasuna defended brilliantly. In the 85th minute, Savinho scored once, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul by a teammate. The Brazilian's despair was short-lived, though, as two minutes later, he scored again, and this time it stood.
