Girona secures 4-1 win over Cadiz

The unexpected gift from Spain Girona, who strengthened its hold on third place in La Liga with a 4-1 home victory over relegation-threatened Cadiz on Saturday, will make its debut in European competition the following season. With 68 points, the Catalan team is seven points ahead of Atletico Madrid, who will visit Alaves on Sunday and ten points ahead of Athletic Bilbao, who is in fifth position after Friday's 1-1 draw at home against Granada.

Girona's victory ensures that it will play in the Europa Conference League the following season. Eric Garcia gave it an early lead in the ninth minute, and Ivan Martin added another in the twenty-second. Artem Dovbyk, the top scorer in La Liga, extended the lead in the 71st minute with his 18th league goal of the year, and eight minutes from time, substitute Portu completed the victory.
