Girona’s thumping 5-2 win over Almeria

The Catalan team tied Real Madrid for first place with 25 points after 10 games by coming back from two goals behind to win convincingly at their home stadium, Montilivi. Girona took advantage of Madrid's Saturday 1-1 draw at Sevilla to move up to Los Blancos, despite giving themselves a mountain to climb. Leo Baptistao gave Almeria, who are still searching for their first victory of the year, the lead after just two minutes. Midway through the first half, he added another goal to thrill new coach Gaizka Garitano.

However, after having an earlier goal disallowed for offside, Ivan Martin began Girona under Michel's command's astonishing six-minute barrage before halftime. In the 39th and 43rd minutes, Artem Dovbyk scored twice with aplomb to give the hosts the lead. The fourth goal was scored by Brazilian winger Savinho, while the final two goals were scored by replacement Cristhian Stuani.
