Guardiola angry at overweight players

In football there are managers who are very strict when it comes to eating different kinds of foods during the season, people like Diego Simeone and Pep Guardiola even tend to body shame many of the players who they consider are overweight. Some testimonies of players at Atletico Madrid such as Koke or Antoine Griezmann confessed in public that Simeone always weights his players every day, this practice is something that Pep Guardiola also has.

So when he arrived at Manchester City's training grounds and saw how Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri arrived, he immediately put them on a diet and threatened them with leaving them out of practice until they go back to their normal size. Pep also has restricted food at certain times of the day, he has forbidden junk food and got incredibly strict with what every single player eats. For him, it's key to have all players in their ideal weight.

Talking to the press ahead of the International Champions Cup match against Borussia Dortmund, Pep said this is not true: "They were not overweight but I want my players fit. For me, the weight is so, so important. We need to run, to fight, to jump – to have the ball. After three days, then another three days, then another three days. When you are not fit and [your] weight is not proper, danger is coming. They are not fast enough - that's why I want my players to be absolutely fit."

Tha manager was also happy for finally being able to play in China after the Manchester Derby got suspended due to rain: "Tomorrow we are so happy to finally play here in China. We are disappointed by what happened – we need to play games. We wanted to play against United but the pitch was not acceptable. Now we're happy to play this game. Maybe we play one friendly game next week in our center. We're trying to look for a team from the Championship or League One. Maybe."
