The German giants did it again, Pep Guardiola has arrived to the seventh Champions League semifinals of his career as a manager. Having been a manager for only 8 years and taken a sabbatical, Guardiola has reached the record held by Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti. But there is a big difference, Pep did it at a really early age turning him into a true prodigy in football. This Wednesday he managed to defeat Benfica at Stadio da Luz in Lisbon with an aggregate scoreline of 3-2.
After winning at Allianz Arena 1-0, Bayern was going to really struggle against the Portuguese team. As Pep anticipated, the Portuguese side managed to get the lead in the first half with a Raul Jimenez strong header on the 26th minute. The Mexican player appeared at a really needed moment for his side and leveled the aggregate with his goal. However, Bayern had their best guns on the field in Franck Ribery and Douglas Costa commanding the attack. But it would be Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal the one who scored Bayern's first away goal and gave Benfica the need to win the match with a two goal advantage.
Bayern would finish things up in the second half during a corner kick, as Thomas Muller connected with a Javi Martinez header after a Xabi Alonso corner kick. This put things almost impossible for the Portuguese side, but they wanted to go out guns blazing and they did at the end. Before the end of the match, it was Talisca who beautifully curled a free kick to the top corner for the final 2-2 draw and the 3-2 aggregate for Bayern. The Germans go to semis with the exact same aggregate as the other three tiers. Now we wait for next Friday's draw to see who will play against who in the semifinals on the road to Milan.
