Halilovic recognizes Messi's talent

He has already been compared with Leo Messi by the way that he plays and the kinds of dribbling he has, but the Catalan club thinks that he still needs to perform at a really high level in order to become the player that he can be. The loan spell at Sporting Gijon gave him more than enough experience to try and look for a higher placed team, that's why Barcelona agreed on a €5 million deal with Bundesliga club Hamburger.

The Catalan club has a buy-back clause for €10 million as Alen will play in Germany for the next four years at least. Now that he has been there for the last couple of weeks, Halilovic has been interviewed by many local newspapers about his time in Barcelona. The player talked about Leo Messi as his main role model, he expects to play alongside him soon enough. Talking to Bild, he said: "Leo is an incredibly nice guy. He is always willing to help, very polite and down to earth. Everybody in the team likes him and not just because he is such a great player.

"I really like the way Messi plays. I have learned a few things from him. I love to take on my direct opponent and play a risky pass. I always try to focus on my own game and to just do my job. Barcelona are the best team in the world. They have the best players around and have won it all. But to be honest, I have never had a pre-season as tough as here at HSV. It is impossible to imagine training three times a day in Spain."
