This season, Maurizio Sarri's squad has been all over the place, but in recent weeks, things have begun to turn around. After winning three straight games against Celtic, Cagliari, and Genoa, the club was able to start regaining confidence. At the Stadio Marcoantonio Bentegodi, Lazio dominated the first half of the game. In the twenty-third minute, Mattia Zaccagni scored a fantastic back-hell flip to punish his former team. Honouring his previous residence, he declined to rejoice.

Adam Marusic was forced off the pitch in the 29th minute due to an apparent eye problem that resulted from a collision with Cyril Ngonge. In his stead stood Elseid Hysaj. The home team had an opportunity to retake the lead in the game as the Biancocelesti continued to apply pressure but were unable to turn it into opportunities.
