A medical issue early in the first half forced the suspension of Inter's match in Turin, and a rainstorm further prolonged the wait. Nicola Zalewski's incredible 25-yard goal gave Inter the lead in stunning fashion.
However, an unexpected downpour caused puddles to form on the pitch, making it impossible for the ball to bounce off the surface. In an attempt to allow the water to flow off the field, the halftime break was prolonged to thirty minutes. Referee Federico La Penna's inspection allowed the game to restart, and in the 49th minute, as the rain continued to pour, Inter was given a penalty when Mehdi Taremi was fouled by Torino goalie Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
