With the advantage of a game in hand against Gian Piero Gasperini's team, the Nerazzurri's victory put them three points behind leaders Atalanta in the standings with 37 points.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan skilfully combined with Denzel Dumfries before the latter sent his shot over the crossbar, but Inter's dominant first half was not rewarded.
