Inter defeated Venezia 1-0 at the San Siro on Sunday, overcoming a late scare to reduce the deficit to just a point at the top of Serie A.
In the last minute of second-half stoppage time, Marin Sverko believed he had canceled off Lautaro Martinez's header, but VAR disallowed the goal for handball. The home team got off to a strong start and came very close to taking the lead as Martinez's attempt went just wide of the far post. Alessandro Bastoni shot over from a distance as Inter continued to have the better opportunities, while Filip Stankovic stopped Federico Dimarco's shot. However, Martinez headed home his fifth goal of the season after Dimarco's enticing ball in the 65th minute, eventually shattering the visitors' tenacity. At the San Siro, however, there was late drama. When Sverko headed a cross from Ridgeciano Haps into the net, Venezia believed they had won a draw.
