Inter had sounded out Fabregas

During a lengthy interview on the YouTube channel 'Colpi da Maestro', Inter's sporting director, Piero Ausilio, shared several behind-the-scenes stories from his time with the Nerazzurri, including missed deals and transfers that hold a special place in his heart.

Ausilio revealed a past interest in Cesc Fabregas, from when the Spaniard was still at the beginning of his career: "We tried to sign him when he didn't even have a contract with Barcelona yet. Casiraghi really pushed for him. We attempted it, but then he went to Arsenal."

Fabregas, currently coach of Como, was also linked with Inter last summer, this time as a coach after Simone Inzaghi's departure. However, Ausilio clarified: "I have great respect for him, and he will have a brilliant career, but Inter was never truly close to signing him. When the coaching situation arose, our first idea was Chivu."
