Inter Milan defeated Empoli 2-0

Leading team Inter Milan defeated Empoli 2-0 at home on Monday, with goals from Federico Dimarco in the first half and Alexis Sanchez in the second, to maintain their apparently unstoppable run to the Serie A championship. With eight games remaining, Inter leads the standings with 79 points, 14 ahead of AC Milan, their local rivals. Inter might win the Scudetto in the April 22 city derby against Milan thanks to their big advantage.

With one point more than Sassuolo in 19th place and tied on 25 points with Frosinone in 17th, the outcome sent Empoli, in 18th position, into the relegation zone. After the game, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi—who was celebrating his 100th victory with the team—lost his voice, so assistant coach Massimiliano Farris handled post-match interviews. In the sixth minute, Dimarco broke the scoreless draw for Inter by firing the ball from the edge of the box with his left foot into the bottom corner.
