Inter Milan defeated Sassuolo 2-1 at home on Sunday to begin their Serie A campaign. Despite a late goal and a number of wasted opportunities, the home team managed to hold on and secure the much-needed three points. After losing two straight league games to fall behind early in the battle for the championship, Cristian Chivu's Inter defeated Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League midweek.
Federico Dimarco put Inter ahead in the 14th minute, but they had to wait for Carlos Augusto's deflected goal nine minutes from time to double their lead. Walid Cheddira's goal in the 84th minute made for a nerve-wracking finish. After four games, Inter is in tenth place with six points, four behind leaders Juventus. Napoli is in second place with nine points and will visit Pisa on Monday. Sassuolo, who was promoted, is still on three points.
