In a lopsided match between Serie A championship contenders on Monday, Inter Milan defeated Lazio 6-0 after scoring four goals in a 12-minute period before halftime and adding two more late on. In front of its own supporters at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio, who were undefeated at home in Serie A, played Inter throughout the majority of the first half.
But four minutes before halftime, Federico Dimarco increased the advantage by volleying home a cross from Denzel Dumfries, and Hakan Çalhanoğlu gave Inter the lead from the penalty spot. Lazio began the match without regular defender Alessio Romagnoli, and halfway through the first half, centre half Matias Gila was replaced by Samuel Gigot. Coach Marco Baroni had to rearrange his back four after Gigot was sent off at halftime, but the absence of seasoned defensive centre players was immediately apparent.
