At San Siro, Felipe Anderson gave the visitors the lead by robbing Francesco Acerbi of the ball and firing past Andre Onana. The hosts had many opportunities to tie the score in the second half, but they were unable to capitalise, and it appeared like the Nerazzurri would suffer yet another home defeat. Martinez, though, scored a goal to tie the score after 77 minutes, after Robin Gosens had given his team the lead. Simone Inzaghi's team rallied to the conclusion, and Martinez added more gloss to the scoring.
Early on, the home team had the advantage over the other team. Henrikh Mkhitaryan proved to be a useful offensive outlet, forcing former Provedel into a stop before tucking home following Joaquin Correa's cutback. His celebrations, however, were cut short by an offside flag.
