Both Jacob Ondrejka and Matija Frigan, Parma's recent acquisition, suffered severe injuries over the terrible summer. Former Juventus and Arsenal assistant manager Carlos Cuesta also missed Hernani, Nicolas Trabucchi, and Botond Balogh and Abdoulaye Ndiaye, who were suspended. Andrea Cambiaso made a crucial save to stop Mathias Lovik's tap-in after an early flicked-on long throw caused chaos at the back post.

After an unfortunate bounce off the turf, Zion Suzuki had to flap a diving header from Francisco Conceicao over the bar at the other end. There was a lack of communication when David took the Conceicao cross off the foot of Kenan Yildiz in a much better position. A similar situation saw Khephren Thuram and Bremer collide trying to get on the end of an Andrea Cambiaso cross at the back post.
