KÍ Klaksvík, the current champions of the top Faroese football league, made history by becoming the first Faroese team ever to secure their participation in group stage UEFA Champions. This came after winning over Swedish champions BK Häcken on August 2nd and defeating Hungarian champions Ferencváros on July 19th, respectively, after the initial games against both clubs ended in draws. KÍ Klaksvík will take on the reigning Norwegian champions Molde later this month, with the first match taking place in Tórshavn on August 9 and the second game taking place in Molde on August 16.
After extra, the score remained equal at 3-3. To settle the face off between KÍ Klaksvík and Häcken, penalties were used. KÍ Klaksvík stunningly won, bringing the score to 6-7. On Thursday, there were celebrations all around, especially in KÍ Klaksvík, where the stadium was jam-packed with supporters upon the Faroese champions' return.
