Tuesday's UEFA Champions League match between Lazio and Atletico Madrid ended in a 1-1 tie thanks to a goal from Lazio custodian Ivan Provedel with the game's final touch. With this incredible feat, Provedel became just the second custodian in Champions League history to net a non-penalty. Atletico was ahead 1-0 and was defending a set piece when Provedel exited his area to provide assistance in attack and scored with a header off a cross from Luis Alberto.
After the game, Provedel commented, "I'm going to enjoy this," as he reflected on his performance. But we only earned one point; we didn't win, he said, before revealing that Ciro Immobile of Lazio was the inspiration for his offensive approach. "It's a wonderful feeling, and I'm still processing it. The hardest part was avoiding the slaps at the very end; fortunately, Luis Alberto kicked it there," Provedel said to Mediaset after the game.
