Lille upset Atletico Madrid with a 3-1 comeback victory on Wednesday, thanks to two goals from substitute Jonathan David. This was Lille's second consecutive Champions League triumph. After shocking holders Real Madrid 1-0 earlier in October, Lille has now defeated a second Madrid team on back-to-back matchdays. In the eighth minute, Julian Alvarez scored for Atletico after intercepting a poor back ball from Lille defender Ousmane Toure.
Edon Zhegrova replaced injured midfielder Remy Cabella in the 16th minute, which was further bad news for Lille. However, they were spared more suffering when Alexander Sorloth missed three excellent scoring chances in the first half. Zhegrova's incredible left-footed effort into the top far corner in the 61st minute gave the visitors the equalizer as a form of retribution against Atleti.
