It safe to say by now that Zinedine Zidane has a special kind of connection with Real Madrid, even if he wasn't a player who grew there. The French genius was already a truly great player with France before he arrived to Los Blancos, but he became a great at club level when he started wearing the white shirt. Since then, Zidane has been directly involved in Real Madrid's last two Champions League, one as a player and another one as an assistant manager. Today he is the manager and he has managed to take the club to a new final.
This impressive first run as a head coach has been a warm pleasant experience to many people of football around the world. Among those names we have Italian manager Marcello Lippi, who trained him at Juventus back in the nineties. The former manager is very pleased by what 'Zizou' has managed to accomplish in so little time, there is no doubt for him that the French genius will win many trophies with Los Blancos in the future.
Talking to AS, Lippi said: "Honestly, he's been excellent. Zizou is a one off, there's no one else like him. He can do whatever he wants, he'll always be exceptional. He's perfect, on and off the pitch. Real Madrid and Atletico have both had fantastic seasons and deserve to be there to fight for the trophy. I have no doubt about that. While many people may not consider them to be exponents of spectacular football, I consider both of them effective teams.
About Atletico's style, Lippi said: "It's a playing style with its own charm and it's effective. Simeone is capable of getting his message across clearly. He was like that as player and has carried that trait through to management. [Atleti] are very solid defensively, that's for sure, but they're also capable of playing very good football and are very well organized. They're not a flash in the pan. And they're anything but anti-football."
