Liverpool eye Inter Stefan de Vrij as Van Dijk replacement.

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Inter Milan’s 33-year-old defender Stefan de Vrij as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who has yet to sign a contract extension. The Dutch centre-back will be a free agent this summer, making him an affordable option. However, at 33, de Vrij may not be the ideal long-term solution.

Liverpool should prioritize a younger defender with more potential, as they aim to remain competitive in the Premier League and European competitions. They have been linked with Dean Huijsen as another defensive option. While de Vrij brings experience, he would be a downgrade from van Dijk, who remains one of the world’s top defenders. Liverpool’s priority should be convincing van Dijk to stay, but if he leaves, they must recruit wisely. De Vrij might welcome a Premier League move, but Liverpool must aim higher for sustained success.
