Liverpool are preparing for life after Virgil van Dijk, whose contract expires in June 2027 and remains without an extension. With the 35‑year‑old having made 380 appearances since joining in 2017, the club is reportedly planning ahead and has identified Alessandro Bastoni as a leading candidate to succeed him, according to Fichajes.
Bastoni, 27, is under contract with Inter until 2028 but is said to be open to a Premier League move. Liverpool have already made initial contact as they assess the Italian’s situation, which could evolve if renewal talks stall.
The centre‑back has previously attracted interest from Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid, though none submitted a formal bid last summer. Inter had valued him at around €70 million, a figure that may drop as he approaches the final years of his deal, making him a realistic option for Liverpool’s defensive rebuild.
