Liverpool's 5-0 thumping of West Ham United at the London Stadium marked the end of 2024. With this win, their 14th of the season, they now have an eight-point advantage over Nottingham Forest, who are now in second place in the Premier League. Liverpool gradually regained their groove in spite of West Ham's strong defensive start and outstanding goalkeeping from Alphonso Areola.
Luis Díaz scored the first goal in the 30th minute after grabbing a rebound in the box. Cody Gakpo doubled the advantage with a crisp finish past the French custodian at 39' after Mohamed Salah missed a ball. Salah scored the third goal with a low shot shortly before halfway after Curtis Jones' outstanding pass. With a drive from the edge of the box that deflected off Max Kilman and wrong-footed the goalie in the 54th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0.
