According to reports, Manchester United had passed up the opportunity to sign Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries. The Red Devils turned down the Serie A team's apparent willingness to allow the Dutchman to move to Old Trafford in exchange for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. After Wan-Bissaka replaced Diogo Dalot as the usual starter on the right side of defence after the 2022 World Cup, he had been out of favour since Erik ten Hag's arrival at the beginning of the previous season. Even though a hamstring issue has hampered his 2023–24 campaign, the 26-year-old has nevertheless made 10 starts for the Red Devils.
An indication of the former Ajax manager's opinion of him Wan-Bissaka arrived as a result of the club's decision this month to activate a provision that would have extended his contract through the 2025 summer. The Sun also claims that the idea of trading him in for Holland's 50-cap international was quickly abandoned.
