It's rough times in Mexico right now, the economy is not very healthy and they are about to embark on a journey where the United States will put a lot of pressure on all Mexicans due to their new policies coming from the newly elect president Donald Trump. With all that's going on right now, a victory against the USMNT was the exact thing all Mexico needed and making history was the only way to go this past Friday in Columbus Ohio.
Skipper Rafael Marquez was the one who made the difference with a heroic header that gave Mexico their first victory on the last 44 years in American soil. Rafa was excited for the win, he delivered a hopeful message to all the fans after the game and said: "As one of our assistants said well, we're not trying to change the history, because it's impossible to change it, but we're trying to make our own history.
"In this match, we showed that we have the mental fortitude to compete anywhere, that the team is able to overcome adversity, that it's capable of winning games in the last minute like many good national teams do on the international level. It was the best opportunity to change this story. It was what we were thinking about the last couple of days. There were a lot of times we didn’t have a good game here and right now we are very happy. It is very important for us."
