Marseille's 5-1 thrashing of bottom-dwelling Clermont gave new manager Jean-Louis Gasset his third straight victory across all competitions. Since taking over as manager of sixth-place Marseille on February 20, Gasset has instilled confidence in the team.

Midway through the first half, attacking midfielder Iliman Ndiaye gave the visitors the lead by scuffing a shot inside the post. Later, Marseille gained total command, with goals from Jonathan Clauss, Luis Henrique, and Faris Moumbagna in addition to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a former forward for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Barcelona as he scored his tenth goal in the league. In another match, Jonathan David, a forward for Lille from Canada, broke up a close match at Reims in the 56th minute by scoring his 12th league goal of the year. With a game remaining, Nice is now one point ahead of fourth-place Lille, while Monaco is now one point behind.
