Martinez released by Atlanta after 6 years

On Wednesday, Atlanta confirmed Martinez will no longer be their Designated Player, ending his six-year tenure there. The Venezuelan international decided to sign with Phil Neville's Inter Miami team as a consequence. Inter Miami will introduce their new player at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday before their friendly match against Vasco da Gama.

Martinez moved to Atlanta in 2017 and made a quick impression there. In each of his first three seasons, the 29-year-old was nominated to the league's Best XI. He then received All-Star honours in 2018 and 2019 before winning the prized MVP title in 2018. The Venezuelan, who has scored 14 goals in 63 international appearances, won an MLS Cup, a US Open Cup, and a Campeones Cup while playing with the Five Stripes. On the transfer, Martinez stated, "I'm delighted for the chance to represent Inter Miami and give my all.
