Martino hails Messi's historic record

Gerardo Martino has managed Lionel Messi both at Barcelona and Argentina, they are both from the small town of Rosario in Argentina and have a special feeling between them. Now that the manager has Argentina under his wing, Messi is finally starting to shine as the player everybody expects him to be for his country. This past Tuesday, Martino saw how Messi reached a historic 55-goal record for Argentina, which is an all-time milestone for his national team.

The Barcelona star isn't worried about the records, what he wants is to win trophies and manager Gerardo Martino confessed that he is working hard to get that for Leo. After a historic night in Houston, Lionel Messi has a big chance this time of finally getting some important silverware for Argentina and finally get rid of that infamous tag of not being enough for Argentina. Martino spoke to the press after the match to talk about Messi's achievement.

Martino said: "It makes me very happy what he has done. Very pleased that has been in this Copa America. It is great that the best player in the world is the leading scorer of the Argentina national team. But knowing how he is, he is happier about the team. What brings us closer to win the final is approaching the performance of today's match. The answer we have to give on Sunday, only the result will determine whether we are the best or not."
