In past days, FC Barcelona announced that they let Brazilian full-back Adriano go to play for Turkish club Besiktas. The club is about to play the Champions League and are looking to sign competitive players who understand the competition and may be veterans in European football. According to this profile of players they are after, the Turkish club also approached French defender Jeremy Mathieu with an offer to play for them.
However, Mathieu revealed this Friday that he refused such offer and told the club that he is very happy at FC Barcelona right now. Despite the arrivals of Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne as the new competition for him, Mathieu is eager to start the season and fight for a place inside Luis Enrique's starting XI for next season. His experience will surely bring a lot to the Catalan club.
Talking to Mundo Deportivo, Jeremy Mathieu revealed that: "It's true that I've had contact, but I told the president that I was very happy here and my intention is to continue. Umtiti and Digne are friends of mine, and my team-mates. It's true that they are players who play in my position, but I won't have any problem. Luis Enrique already knows that I prefer to play as a centre-back, but in football you can never say what will happen."
