Mattia Zaccagni has been sent home

Lazio forward Mattia Zaccagni has also been sent home from international duty. Zaccagni was unable to join the team at the Coverciano training camp as he aimed to receive treatment in hopes of being fit for the upcoming England match at Wembley Stadium. However, today, the medical staff determined that he wouldn't recover in time, resulting in his return to the Lazio camp.

Zaccagni now adds to the extensive list of players absent under coach Luciano Spalletti, which includes the likes of Federico Chiesa, Ivan Provedel, Ciro Immobile, Mateo Retegui, and Lorenzo Pellegrini. Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo were sent back to their respective clubs, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, due to their formal involvement in an illegal betting investigation. This situation leaves the Nazionale with very limited options for these crucial EURO 2024 qualifiers.
