According to former Argentina international Maxi Rodriguez, Argentina as a country should pay homage to the work that Diego Simeone is doing in Europe. This Argentine manager has been one of the most successful in history and should be regarded as such, from his La Liga trophy with Atletico Madrid, to the Europa League he won just after he arrived, and who could forget the two lost Champions League finals against Real Madrid.
Talking to the press, Maxi said: "Argentine football is different as it is lived in a very particular way, especially here in Rosario. Argentine manager Diego Simeone deserves a statue in his honor. While in England and Spain, the passion is controlled, but they are an example to follow in many other things. When I was at Atletico, we lacked quality, but a few years ago with Cholo, there has been a great jump in quality.
"Years ago, it was always a good team, that's for sure. But during my time, it was a sleeping giant. With a great tactician like Simeone, now Atletico have nothing to envy of Real Madrid or Barcelona. It is difficult to compete with these clubs, but the team set up by El Cholo has already become LaLiga champion and reached two Champions League finals, which is far from easy."
He added: "Simeone is an intelligent, capable and motivational coach. These are the type of coaches that live football in a very special way. I had the chance to share a few training sessions with him and he has always been the same. For him, it's not a job, it's a lifestyle."
