While Verona and Monza missed opportunities to score, VAR saved the referee from an absurd moment when he gave away a penalty.

The hosts' Samuele Vignato and Gianluca Caprari remained out of commission, while Hellas had suspended Tomas Suslov and had hurt Alessandro Berardi and Juan Manuel Cruz. Swiderski, a January acquisition, made his debut for Verona, and inside the first few minutes, his back-heel flick sent Darko Lazovic streaking down the left side to flash the ball across the goal's face. After a defensive blunder, Lorenzo Colombo had the ball in the net but had drifted offside. Andrea Colpani tripped over the rebound, and Lorenzo Montipò made a desperate stop on Samuele Birindelli's diving header. After doing well to sidestep opponents, Colpani was unable to locate the goal once more, and Andrea Carboni made a crucial interception to stop Michael Folorunsho from tapping in.
