Manchester United wasn't able to find the way back to victory in the Premier League this Sunday, they had a great chance to shorten the distance with Manchester City before the Citizens played at White Hart Lane. They even started winning the match thanks to an Anthony Martial goal in the second half, but what counts more are the numerous chances they wasted or missed. This United has nothing to do with the one that lost three straight games, the reason why Jose Mourinho was actually pleased with the players despite the result. Joe Allen tied the game near the end for Stoke.
About Martial's goal, Mourinho agreed the French winger needed to score: "He needs that. Amazing goal, and very good initiative for his confidence, from his personal point of view. I never criticize my players for missing chances. Their goalkeeper is the man of the match and obviously deservedly. There was the post too, there are chances when we could do better, but I don't criticize my players. There were naive mistakes sometimes. We should not just be with three points, but also with a fat result.
"Today was the best performance [of the season] from the minute one. Everything was beautiful, the first chance was beautiful. Paul's chance it was beautiful football. It was frustrating, but the performance was there. With England, Rooney is in the hands of Southgate. I never interfere with that," Mourinho finished.
